The Slanted Door cookbook is an easy intro into no fuss Vietnamese food. A beautiful book with gorgeous photography. This is a book that you can sit down and read cover to cover. This book is broken down into three acts based on times in the authors life. They are:
Act one 584 Valencia street
Act two 100 Brannan street
Act three 1 ferry building
There are your standard recipes such as spring rolls, sticky rice, stir fried green beans, and pickled radishes. There are also recipes that I have never tried. Vietnamese sausage, lemongrass soup, bitter melon and many more that I look forward to trying with the help of this great book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to try their hand at Vietnamese cooking.
Charles Phan is the executive chef and owner of The Slanted Door family of restaurants, and the author of IACP award-winning book, Vietnamese Home Cooking (2012). He received the James Beard Award for Best Chef California in 2004, and in 2011, was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food in America. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and their three children.
